Japan
is not like other countries, but now Im not going to talk about it.
Japanese game industry is incredible. No doubt Japan is the smith of the
greatest games in the world. Japanese almost dont make PC games at all,
but they are liders of console-game developing. There are many original
and unusual game genres which are popular only in Japan, many great games
were never seen beyond the Japan borders... Japanese gamers are very
strange to us, europeans and americans. Ofcourse there are many famous and
popular games and game series, which were published all over the world,
like 'Final Fantasy' for example. But usual non-japanese gamer never
played games like 'Super Robot Taisen Impact' or 'From TV Animation',
maybe he even didnt heard about them! But those games are made by the
famous companies, so why are they published only in Japan? Because those
games are popular only in Japan, because japanese have very unusual taste.
They are most avanced people in the world, they always get most greates
games first, but they dont care about it! They just play what they like.
For example, if Bandai will publish 'From TV Animation' or something like
that in Europe, I dont think that it will be sold more than 50000 copies.
Well, I highly doubt that japanese will play something like 'Quake 3' too.
Thats why Microsoft Xbox not popular in Japan. No advertising and no money
can help console in Japan if it doesnt have good games, especially good
RPG's. But Xbox is very 'american-style' console, japanese are always very
careful in choosing platform, so Xbox must have at least 3-4 good JRPG's
to be popular. 'Halo' cant save situation in Japan. So now Microsoft is
losing very much money on advertising, and they have little success with
Xbox in Japan. Experienced developer teams are now working on
'japanese-like' games to improve the situation. Sega is 'on Microsoft
side' too. Xbox is not popular too much in Europe, so Microsoft lowers
price of the console here. Leaders in Japan console industry are PS2
(Sony) and GBA (Nintendo). PSone is still popular here too.
Japanese game
developers are authors of many great and famous games, like Squaresoft
('Final Fantasy'), Namco ('Tekken', 'Soul Calibur', 'Xenosaga'), Nintendo
('Mario', 'Zelda', 'Pokemon'), Konami ('Metal Gear Solid', 'Silent Hill'),
Capcom ('Street Fighter', 'Resident Evil'), Enix ('Dragon Quest') and
others. But still, there are many 'only for Japan' games. 1/2 of the Japan
people are playing games. Lets think that old people and little kids are
not playing and what we have? Almost every teenager and young man in Japan
plays computer games. Games is a usual part of life there, thats why Japan
game charts are unstable, there are equal numbers of 'usual people' and
'advanced gamers'.
Well, thats
all for now. But there are more things to tell about Japan ofcourse, so
this topic has a big future. |
